Texas Athletes headed to the NRFL Combine

On January 12-15 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, 240 athletes from a myriad of sports and from across the globe gather to tryout for the NRFL Rough Riders. The Rough Riders are set to face the Leicester Tigers this summer at a date and venue to be announced soon after the combine.

This Is Texas Rugby has gathered a partial list of athletes that will be in attendance. Take the jump to see who from the Lone Star State (and Oklahoma) will be at the combine.

Petey at the April NRFL Combine
Petey Hepburn (pictured left) will attend and compete in the combine with the first round of attendees on Day 1 (12th). Petey has spent all summer and fall working out at 5th Gear CrossFit in Houston to improve his Strength and conditioning scores. His scores were impressive last year, but Petey was not satisfied. As names of 2015 combine attendees were announced, Petey gained incentive to improve his performance from last season. He returns to prove his worth in the game.

Spike Davis playing for Alliance

Aaron "Spike" Davis (pictured right) played Defensive Tackle for SMU, lettered three times and attended rookie mini-camps for the Green Bay Packers & Washington Redskins after college. Davis has been preparing for the combine by playing rugby for Alliance Rugby in the Fort Worth area under the tutelage of storied Coach Doug Neubauer.

Editor's Note:

The NRFL recently posted on Facebook about the Combine, conspicuously stating: "The (Los Angeles) Coliseum will be home to one of our first NRFL franchises."

SoCal rugby folk are always stating how their region is a hot-bed of rugby. They may get a chance to walk the walk that they talk soon enough!
