Where There's Texas College Rugby - Oct 10-11

Where There's Texas Rugby will be divided by divisions and conferences on weekends when many matches are scheduled.

Red River College Rugby Conference

Texas v Oklahoma

The Red River Rugby Showdown! Glencoe Park (Dallas) Friday at 8pm

This is a much anticipated clash between the two local, well-drilled Varsity Cup clubs that are both playing cohesive rugby. Given Oklahoma's penchant for multi-try games, Texas needs to pressure and shut down the Oklahoma midfield. This match may come down to which team is more fit, though. If that is the case, Oklahoma definitely has the advantage. Both clubs are bringing two full sides to the Red River Showdown.

Baylor at Texas Tech

2pm Saturday in Lubbock

This will be Tech's first clash of the season. The Red Raiders will need to work the kinks out early to beat a Baylor squad that is bullish for a conference victory after being downed by Texas and Oklahoma.

Texas State at Texas A&M

7pm Friday at Penberthy Rec Sports Complex

A&M showed well at the SWC XVs Tourney, but didn't face the big, hard-hitting Texas State side that day. Texas St visits College Station off a win over SFA and A&M is still feeling the sting of two losses last weekend (UNT & OU). Since this is a Red River bye weekend for the Aggies, we expect them to field their 1st XV and set a high pace.

University of Houston at University of North Texas

2pm Saturday in Denton

Houston had a great first half against Rice last weekend and it was enough to prevent Rice's second half from overtaking the lead. The Cougars are looking much better at the breakdown and possess a potentially lethal midfield that just needs to run north/south to break the gainline. UNT has always been tough and well-drilled, this year they add depth and a more strategic view of the pitch. The Cougars must capitalize on turn-over ball immediately, because the Mean Green Machine is not interested in giving up much possession this year.

UNT 2 at University of Dallas

2pm Saturday at the Bob MacNab Rugby Pitch in Irving

A&M's not the only club with a separate traveling 2nd XV, this year! This is the second weekend in a row that UNT has sent their 2nd XV off to get game-time away from the SWC match. The won handily against Rice's 2nd XV last weekend. The UD Groundhogs are always up to a challenge, though. KUDOS to both teams for getting this match together and getting folks deserved minutes.

The Red River Rugby Conference Senior Clubs grab some traction this weekend with some friendlies, too.

San Antonio RFC & Grand Prairie Mavericks RFC at Dallas RFC

Saturday at 1pm at Lake Highlands Park

Dallas Harlequins (W) at Little Rock (W)

Saturday at 3pm in Little Rock
