UNT Eagles out-raptor the Rice Owls

UNT Rugby Press Release

UNT Mean Green Rugby defeated Rice University on Saturday 89-8. This brings the Eagles to 4-0 in the Southwest Conference. Forwards Man of the Match, Bryan Kelly (Corsicana HS), broke tackles at will from the #8 position and set up a few of the 13 tries scored. He was also part of a defensive line that stifled Rice and holds its opposition to minimal scoring chances. Backs M.O.T.M., winger Hame Havili (Haltom HS), had four searing tries. He was unstoppable in space and found work all over the field.

Mean Green Rugby's second side also won big vs Rice's seconds. Forwards M.O.T.M., Daniel Curl (Haltom HS), has only played the sport for a month and is a live wire flanker that attacks rucks and is always in support. Vic Martinez (North Side HS) earned Backs M.O.T.M. by running past everyone, every time he got the ball. Martinez and inside center partner, Mitch Deyong (Sulfur Springs HS), were too much to handle in the 63-7 win.

UNT's next match is in San Marcos vs Texas State University on Saturday at 7pm on Texas State's West Athletic Field (601 University Dr, San Marcos).
